Question:

The equation 3x=3x+5 has no solution, whereas the equation 7x+8=8 has zero as a solution. Explain the difference between a solution of zero and no solution.

Answer:

Consider the first equation.....

3x=3x+5
Solution of this equation means value of 'x' which satisfies the given equation...that means when you plugg the value of 'x' in the given equation, it will satisfy the equation.....

lets try to solve this equation...

subtract 3x from both sides of the equation....(because here you have to retain the x term in one side all the constant term in the other side)

3x - 3x =3x + 5 - 3x

==> 0 = 0 + 5
here the term containg 'x got eliminated because both sides having the same x terms.....

so we cannot proceed further.....
so we can say that this equation has no solution......

Now consider the second equation.....

7x+8=8

subtract 8 from both sides.....(because here you have to retain the x term in one side all the constant term in the other side)

7x + 8 - 8 = 8 - 8

==> 7x = 0

Now divide both sides by 7.....

==> +7x%2F7++=+0%2F7+

==> x = 0, because when we divide 0 by 7, the answer is 0

So we can say that here the value of x is 0

That is solution is 0.

Hope you found the explanation useful......
