if the result is 8 less than one-third of p. then we write it as p%2F3-8
find p:
p-36=p%2F3-8...............solve for p, first both sides multiply by 3
3p-3%2A36=3p%2F3-3%2A8
3p-108=p-24
3p-p=p-24%2B108
2p=84
p=84%2F2
p=42
