Question 825762: Nine cards are numbered from 1 to 9 respectively. Two cards are distributed to each of four children. The sum of the numbers on the two cards the children are given is: 7 for Ann, 10 for Ben, 11 for Cathy and 12 for Don. What is the number on the card that was not distributed?
I tried working this out, and I got my answer as the number 5. However, I'm not entirely sure because my friend worked it out and got a different answer. Is there any way you could please help?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It's simple :)
Just add the numbers from 1 to 9, then subtract the sum of the numbers the children got. You'll get the number which was not distributed. :)
1%2B2%2B3%2B4%2B5%2B6%2B7%2B8%2B9=45
45-7-10-11-12=5
5
You're actually correct :) You dont need to know what combination of numbers they got, :)

HOPE it helps!
