Question 73714: I know this isn't really a word problem but I wasn't sure where this would go
(z+3)/(z+5)=(z-2)/(z-5) Found 2 solutions by checkley75, ankor@dixie-net.com:Answer by checkley75(3666) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! (Z+3)/(Z+5)=(Z-2)(Z-5) NOW CROSS MULTIPLY
(Z+5)(Z-2)=(Z+3)(Z-5)
Z^2+5Z-2Z-10=Z^2+3Z-5Z-15 CANCEL OUT THE X^2 TERMS.
3Z+2Z=10-15
5Z=-5
Z=-5/5
X=-1
PROOF
(-1+3)/(-1+5)=(-1-2)/(-1-5)
2/4=-3/-6
1/2=1/2
You can put this solution on YOUR website! =
:
Cross multiply and you have:
z^2 + 3z - 10 = z^2 - 2z - 15
:
z^2 - z^2 + 3z + 2z = -15 + 10; z's on the left, numbers on the right
:
5z = -5
:
z = -1
