Question 565530: I am having a hard time with this word problem i know that it is D=R*T just can't set it up!! Here goes Cara can shovel the snow from her driveway in 25min.Therease can do the smae job in 30min. How long would it take cara and Teresa to shovel the driveway if they worked toghter? You can put this solution on YOUR website! Cara can shovel the snow from her driveway in 25min.Therease can do the smae job in 30min. How long would it take cara and Teresa to shovel the driveway if they worked toghter?
----
The problem has nothing to do with D = RT
------
Cara rate = 1/25 job/min
Theresa rate = 1/30 job/min
-----
Together rate = 1/x job/min
------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/25 + 1/30 = 1/x
(30+25)/(25*30) = 1/x
x = (25*30)/(30+25)
x = 13.64 minutes (time for them to do the job together)

d = r*t is used to calculate distance, speed and time.
This problem is not about that.

Cara can shovel the snow from her driveway in 25min.Therease can do the smae job in 30min. How long would it take cara and Teresa to shovel the driveway if they worked toghter?
-----------
Cara does 1/25 of the driveway per minute
Theresa does 1/30 per minute.
---
Together, they do 1/25 + 1/30 per minute = 55/750 per minute
--> 750/55 minutes per driveway
= 150/11 minute
=~ 13.64 minutes
You can put this solution on YOUR website! In words:
( C's rate of shoveling ) + ( T's rate of shoveling ) = ( rate of both shoveling together )
C's rate = 1 driveway / 25 min
T's rate = 1 driveway / 30 min
Let = time in minutes for them to shovel driveway together
Now I can write the equation:
Multiply both sides by
Working together, they could finish job in 13 min 38 sec
