In a town election the winning candidate had 220 more votes than the loser. If 810 votes were cast in all, how many votes did each candidate recieve?

Let number the loser had be "x"
The number the winner had was "x+220)
EQUATION:
loser votes + winner votes = all the votes
x+x+220=810
2x=590
x=295 (number of loser votes)
x+220=515 (number of winner votes)
