Question 556641: PLEASE HELP ME I've been working on the same problem for over an hour and I'm still stuck.
"The force in newtons needed to stretch a certain spring x cm from its resting position is given by the polynomial function f(x) = 6x²where 6 is the spring constant. If a force of 54 newtons is applied, how far will the spring be stretched?"
From what I know, I substitute: 54(x)=6x^2, but from there I can't do it.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f%28x%29+=+6x%5E2 Substitute f%28x%29+=+54
54+=+6x%5E2 Divide by 6.
9+=+x%5E2 Take the square root, use positive solution only.
x+=+3cm.
