x+14 = points scored in game 1.


The sum of points they scored is x + x+14 + 29 and that sum must be less than 77.


x+%2B+x%2B14+%2B+29%3C77


Add the x's, add the numbers.


2x+%2B+43+%3C+77


Subtract 43 from each side.


2x+%3C+34


Divide both sides by 2.


x+%3C+17


At most, they scored 16 points in the first game.
