Question 53234This question is from textbook College Mathematics
: The shorter side of an L-shaped carpenters square is 6 inches shorter than the longer side. If the total length of the carpenter's square is 24 inches, what is the measure of each side?
I set up the problem 2x + 2(x-6) = 24 inches
I came up with the answer of 2 sides at 9 inches and 2 sides at 3 inches. Is this right? If it is a square, why wouldn't the sides be equal? Thanks for your time!

YOUR ANSWER IS 100% CORRECT
YOUR DOUBT ON THE NAME IS ALSO GENUINE...THERE ARE SEVERAL SUCH APPARENT CONTRADICTIONS IN NAMES.
HERE IT IS ATLEAST CALLED L SHAPED SQUARE...AS WE KNOW L SHAPE IS DEFINITELY ONE SIDE LONGER AND ONE SHORTER.
WE CALL BASEBALL FIELD AS DIAMOND (IMPLYING RHOMBUS IN MATHS)WHERE AS IT IS A PERFECT SQUARE AS WE KNOW.
