An opposite : 4 and -4 8 and -8
so you want to find opposites, that when subtracted equal 96
+x+-+%28-x%29+=+96+
Subtracting a negative is the same as adding a positive
+x+%2B+x+=+96+
combine like terms
+2x+=+96+
Divide by 2
+x+=+48+
48 and -48 are the opposites
