You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Adult tickets for a play cost $17 and child tickets cost $8. If there were 24 people at a performance and the theater collected $363 from ticket sales, how many children attended the play?
----------------------------------
Let number of adult tickets be "x"
Value of those tickets is 17x dollars
Number of child tickets is "24-x"
Value of those tickets is 8(24-x)=192-8x dollars
EQUATION:
value + value= 363 dollars
17x + 192-8x=363
9x=171
x=19 (number of adult tickets)
24-x=5 (number of child tickets)
