Question 435001: I'm not sure if I am allowed to ask in this way, but i've tried everything and i cannot solve it.
Here is the equation:
Ten minutes after he left his home, Gerald was 40 miles from his grandmother's house. Then, 22 minutes after he left he was 34 miles from her house. If he was traveling toward his grandmother's home at a constant rate and reached her house after 90 minutes, how far away from her house does he live.
P.S. I know the answer is "45 miles" but I just need to know how it's solved.
Thank You,
M

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Ten minutes after he left his home, Gerald was 40 miles from his grandmother's house.
------
Then, 22 minutes after he left he was 34 miles from her house.
--------
Notice: In 12 minutes he has gone 6 miles.
His constant rate is distance/time = 6mi/(1/5)hr = 30 mph
------
If he was traveling toward his grandmother's home at a constant rate and reached her house after 90 minutes, how far away from her house does he live.
----
distance = rate*time
distance = 30 mph*(3/2)hr = 45 miles
