You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi,
Let x and (8272 -x) represent the yes votes and no votes respectively
Question Sets Up the Proportion***
+7%2F4+=+x%2F%288272-x%29
Cross multiplying to solve for x
4x = 7(8272-x)
4x = 7*8272 - 7x
11x = 7*8272
x = 7*8272/11
x =5264, the number of yes votes. No votes = 3008 (8272 - 5264)
CHECKING our Answer***
7/4 = 1.75 = 5264/3008 = 1.75
