Question 326657: cam bought iris for $1.25.he paid with 6 coins what coins did he use

You can put this solution on YOUR website! First think of what types of coins exist. =) You know we have the penny (0.01), the nickel (0.05), the dime (0.10), the quarter (0.25), and the half-dollar (0.50).
You can eliminate pennies because if you use any pennies, you'll have to use at least 5, because the dollar amount of the iris ends in a 5. Using 1,2,3,or 4 pennies would result in ending the dollar amount in, for example, $1.21, $1.22, $1.23, or $1.24, but this is not the case. Cam used $1.25. And using 5 pennies and one other coin will not work.
Let's now think about nickels. You can use 1 nickel to leave $1.20. That means you also have to use two dimes (because you can't make $0.20 from quarters or half-dollars =). Ok, so 1 nickel and 2 dimes leaves $1.00. You can use 2 quarters or 4 because you have to make the remainder $0.50 or zero (since the only other coin to use is the half dollar. If you use 4 quarters, you will end up using 7 coins, too many...If you use 2 quarter with 1 half-dollar, than that's 6 COINS!!! Yay! ^0^
So, Cam used 1 nickel, 2 dimes, 2 quarters, and 1 half-dollar making 6 coins totaling $1.25.
I hope this helps. There's no formula to use, so wrote down all my logic. >.<
