Question 257943: Make a chart and write an equation. Do NOT solve.
Mark drove his car to the repair shop at 48km/h and then walked back home at 8km/h. The drive took 10 minutes less than the walk home. Haw far did Mark walk and for how long? Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! What do you need in your "chart"?
rt=d
48*(x-1/6)=d
8*x=d
Since they both equal d, set them equal to each other.
48*(x-1/6)=8*x
Now this is where the instructions make no sense.
First it says
"Do NOT solve."
and
"Haw (sic) far did Mark walk and for how long?"
We can't get that information without solving.
The car took 2 minutes =1/30 hr. =1/5-1/6
The walk took 12 minutes= 1/5 hr
Both the car and the walker went 8/5 km= 1.6 km
