Question 200541: how would set this problem up useing polynomials:The Jurassic Zoo charges $28.00 for each adult admission and $12.00 for each child. The total bill for 454 people from a school trip was $3860.00. How many adults and how many children went to the zoo?
this is what I have so far
a+c=454
28(454-c)+12c=3860

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You're off to a great start. You just need to solve the second equation to find "c" and then use that value to find "a"

28%28454-c%29%2B12c=3860 Start with the given equation.

12712-28c%2B12c=3860 Distribute.

-16c%2B12712=3860 Combine like terms on the left side.

-16c=3860-12712 Subtract 12712 from both sides.

-16c=-8852 Combine like terms on the right side.

c=%28-8852%29%2F%28-16%29 Divide both sides by -16 to isolate c.

c=2213%2F4 Reduce.

c=553.25 Divide.

Since you cannot have 0.25 of a person, this means that there's a typo somewhere in the problem.

So double check the problem.
