Question 191006: How would I solve this type of problem? If sam can paint a house in 5 hours and Jill can paint a house in 3 hours, how long will it take for both of them to paint a house?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

You can do it in your head!

In 15 hours Sam can paint 3 houses and Jill can paint 5 houses.
That's 8 houses in 15 hours they can paint, both working together,
so the length of time for just 1 house would be 15 hours divided
by 8 or 1 7/8 hours.
