For a certain time period the ratio of the dollar value of exports to the dollar value of imports for the Untied States was 2 to 3.If the value of exports during that time period was 48 billion dollars,then what was the value of imports.

exports to imports was 2 to 3
--------------
2 to 3 is the same as 2x to 3x where 2x is imports and:
2x + 3x = 48 billion
5x = 48 billion
x = 9.6 billion
---------------
So 2x = $19.2 billion (value of the imports).
