You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x= the number of days it takes person A
to paint the house
Then it will take person B 5x days
Their rates of painting are added to get
the rate working together
{one house)/(x days) + (1 house)/(5x days) = (1 house)/(3 days)
1%2Fx+%2B+1%2F5x+=+1%2F3
Multiply both sides by 15x
15+%2B+3+=+5x
5x+=+18
x+=+18%2F5
It takes A 3.6 days working alone
It takes B 18 days woking alone
check answer:
1%2Fx+%2B+1%2F5x+=+1%2F3
1%2F%2818%2F5%29+%2B+1%2F18+=+1%2F3
5%2F18+%2B+1%2F18+=+1%2F3
1%2F3+=+1%2F3
OK
