You can put this solution on YOUR website! First of all, I had to add the zero for this to work. So double check to make sure this is consistent with your problem.

add 1 to each side:
simplify
divide each side by 3.
***FYI Because 3 is a positive number the inequality sign stays less than. If you were multiplying or dividing by a negative the sign would change and become greater than.
so any number less than 1/3 will solve this inequality.
