You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the value of k so that the line through the given points has slope m.
(k+1,k-1),(k,-k); m=k+1
.
Given two points on a line, the slope is:
(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
.
From the two points:
(k+1,k-1),(k,-k)
slope = (-k-(k+1))/(k-(k-1))
slope = (-k-k-1)/(k-k+1)
slope = (-2k-1)/(1)
slope = -2k-1
.
The problem said:
m (slope) = k+1
so, now we have:
k+1 = -2k-1
3k+1 = -1
3k = -2
k = -2/3 (this is the solution)
