: the equation y=3.35x + 3.73
can be used to estimate the number y of digital cameras sold, in millions, x years after 2000. that is, x=0 corresponds to 2000,x=5 corresponds to 2005, and so on. i think i got a correct but b is complicated.
a) estimate the number of digital cameras sold in 2002 and in 2007
y=3.35(2)+3.73=7.43
y=3.35(7)+3.73=27.18
b) in what year were about 20.5 million digital cameras sold?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
year 2000 is 0
year 2002 is 2
year 2007 is 7.
so far so good.
in 2002 they sold (3.35 * 2) + 3.73 = 6.70 + 3.73 = 10.43.
in 2007 they sold (3.35 * 7) + 3.73 = 23.45 + 3.73 = 27.18.
my answer is the same for 2007 but different for 2002.
for part 2 they want to know in what year 20.5 million digital cameras were sold.
the formula is (3.35 * x) + 3.73 = 20.5.
3.35 * x = (20.5 - 3.73)
3.35 * x = 16.77
x = 16.77 / 3.35 = 5.005970..
looks like it happened in the 6th year.
in year 5 (2005) they sold (3.35 * 5) + 3.73 = 20.48
in year 6 (2006) they sold (3.35 * 6) + 3.73 = 23.83
this verifies that it happened in the 6th year.
