Question 131555: Hi the chapter im on is called Exponential and Logarithmic functions. I had a question on a word problem from it.
Here it is:
The voltage input of an amplifier is 0.5 volts. Its voltage output is 52 volts. Use the formula d=10log(E base 0/E base 1), where d is the decibel voltage, E base 0 is the output voltage, and E base 1 is the input voltage to find the decibel voltage.
Okay this question makes no sense to me so if someone can figure it out.. Thank u! Found 2 solutions by stanbon, josmiceli:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The voltage input of an amplifier is 0.5 volts. Its voltage output is 52 volts. Use the formula d=10log(E base 0/E base 1), where d is the decibel voltage, E base 0 is the output voltage, and E base 1 is the input voltage to find the decibel voltage.
----------------------
d=10log(E base 0/E base 1)
Substitute the values you are given to get:
d = 10log(52/1)
d = 10*1.716...
d = 17.16 db
----------------
O is like the output of a loudspeaker
E is like the voice of a person singing
17.16 is the gain in power produced by the amplifier.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! You are misinterpreting the and the
The little "o" and "i" are not bases, they are called
subscripts. All a subscript does is give you a way to
narrow the definition of a variable.
Example:
Suppose is the rent I charge for apartments
Maybe I use in a formula, but I want to know
if the rent is for a 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, or 3-bedroom = rent is for a 1-bedroom = rent is for a 2-bedroom = rent is for a 3-bedroom
Just realise that sometimes little numbers do refer to
the base for a log, just not in this case volts ( is voltage in) volts ( is voltage out) answer
