I think you meant 'too' simple. But, no, it isn't too simple, it is absolutely correct. Think of it this way: He has 4 ways to select a shirt and for each of those 4 ways to select a shirt, he has 6 ways to select a tie, giving you 24 shirt and tie combinations. Then, for each of those 24 shirt and tie combinations, you have 7 pairs of pants to choose, et voila! 168 possibilities.

Of course, all of that discounts the possibility that he has a blue and white striped shirt, a yellow tie with orange polka-dots, and a pair of red pants. That situation would certainly reduce the number of total possibilities by one -- unless he is a professional clown. You get the idea, I'm sure.
