Question 129492This question is from textbook Algebra and Trigonometry
: Hi, I'm having some trouble trying to figure out this problem. Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, lie approximately on the same meridian. Memphis has latitude 35 degrees N and New Orleans, 30 degrees N. Find the distance between these two cities. (The radius of the earth is 3960 mi.) If you could help me I'd be very grateful. Thank you. This question is from textbook Algebra and Trigonometry

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"(The radius of the earth is 3960 mi.)" __ so the circumference is 3960*2*pi or 7920pi mi.

one quarter of that circumference is the distance from the equator to the pole
__ this is divided into 90 degrees of latitude
__ so each degree of latitude represents 22pi mi ((7920pi/4)/90) on the Earth's surface
