Question 1210415: A neon bulb has the following description:
Current: 1.25 milliamperes.
0.1 watts.
Determine applied voltage.
Check my calculations, please.
Using the following data:
P = power (watts).
I = current (amperes).
E = voltage (volts).
Converting 1.25 milliamperes to amperes (amps.) 1.25 * 1000 = 1250.
P / I
0.1 / 1250 = 0.00008 volts.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
A neon bulb has the following description:
Current: 1.25 milliamperes.
0.1 watts.
Determine applied voltage.
Check my calculations, please.
Using the following data:
P = power (watts).
I = current (amperes).
E = voltage (volts).
Converting 1.25 milliamperes to amperes (amps.) 1.25 * 1000 = 1250.
P / I
0.1 / 1250 = 0.00008 volts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your calculations are incorrect.
The error is where you convert milliamperes to amperes.
1.25 milliamperes is not 1.25*1000 = 1250 amperes.
1.25 milliamperes is 1.25*0.001 = 0.00125 amperes.
Therefore, the voltage is = = 80 volts. ANSWER
Solved correctly.
-----------------------------
It is useful to know . . .
Prefix " milli " before a unit's name means " one thousandth " of the unit.
Examples: milligram, millimeter, milliliter, milliampere, . . . and so on.
Prefix " kilo " before a unit's name means " thousand times " the unit.
Examples: kilogram, kilometer, kilovolt, kiloampere, kilowatt, . . . and so on.
