Two mechanics worked on a car. The first mechanic worked for 15 hours, and the second mechanic worked for 5 hours.
Together they charged a total of $1875.
What was the rate charged per hour by each mechanic if the sum of the two rates was $165 per hour?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let x be the rate of the first mechanic.
Then the rate of the second mechanic is (165 - x) dollars.
The "total money" equation is
    15x + 5*(165-x) = 1875  dollars.
Simplify and solve for x:
    15x + 825 - 5x = 1875  ====>
    10x = 1875 - 825 = 1050  ====>  x = 1050%2F10 = 105.
Thus the first mechanic's rate is $105 per hour.
Then the second mechanic's rate is $165 - $105 = $60 per hour.
Solved.
