You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

Their combined rate of work is  1%2F60+%2B+1%2F40 = 2%2F120+%2B+3%2F120 = 5%2F120 = 1%2F24.

So, the time to complete the job would be 24 days, had they work together.

But A left the job after 14 days working together.

After 14 days working together, they completed  the part of  14%2F24 = 7%2F12  the job;

hence, 5%2F12 of the job remained.

Worker B completed the remaining part of the job in  %28%285%2F12%29%29%2F%28%281%2F40%29%29 = %285%2A40%29%2F12 = 200%2F12 = 50%2F3 days = 16 2/3  days.

ANSWER. They worked 14 days together; then A left the job,

         and worker B completed the job in 16 2/3 days working alone.
