One month Tammy rented 3 movies and 5 video games for a total of $35. The next month she rented 12 movies and 2 video games for a total of $41. Find the rental cost for each movie and each video game. Answer by greenestamps(13200) (Show Source):
Multiply the first month's rentals by 4 so that the numbers of movies in both months are the same; then compare the two purchases to determine the cost of each video game.
Then use that cost of a video game in either purchase to determine the cost of a movie.
Algebraically....
Given:
(1)
(2)
(3) [(1), multiplied by 4]
(4) [the difference between (2) and (3)]
ANSWERS:
The cost of renting a movie is m = 2.5 = $2.50
The cost of renting a video game is v = 5.5 = $5.50
