.

Let x = original mass of silver in the alloy (in grams); y = mass of of copper.

After adding 25% of the original mass of silver, there are x+0.25x = 1.25x grams silver in the alloy.

From the condition, you have these two equations

    x - y = 50   grams         (1)   (the difference of the original amounts)

    %281.25x%29%2F%281.25x+%2B+y%29 = 0.6             (2)   (silver concentration of 60% after adding)

Simplify equation (2)

    1.25x = 0.6*(1.25x + y)

    1.25x = 0.75x + 0.6y.

    0.5x = 0.6y                (3)

From equation (1), express x = 50 + y and substitute it into equation (3).

    0.5*(50 + y) = 0.6y

    25 + 0.5y    = 0.6y

    25           = 0.6y - 0.5y = 0.1y

    y = 25/0.1 = 250.

Then from equation (1),  x = 250 + 50 = 300.

ANSWER. Originally, the alloy was 300 gram solver and 250 grams copper.

Let the amount of copper be x.
Therefore amount of silver = x+50
25% of original silver = %2825%2F100%29%2A%28x%2B50%29
=.25(x+50)
Total silver after addition = %28x%2B50%29+%2B+.25%28x%2B50%29
= 1.25%28x%2B50%29
Total weight of the alloy after addition of silver = +x+%2B+1.25%28x%2B50%29
Since new weight of silver is 60% = 60%2F100 = 3%2F5
=> 1.25%28x%2B50%29%2F%28x+%2B+1.25%28x%2B50%29%29 = 3%2F5
=>5%2A1.25%28x%2B50%29= 3%28x+%2B+1.25%28x%2B50%29%29
=>6.25x%2B+312.5 = +3x%2B+3.75x+%2B+187.5
=>312.5+-+187.5 = +3x%2B+3.75x+-6.25x
=>125= .5x
therefore, x = 250
Weight of copper is 250g
Weight of silver is 250+50 = 300g
