You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Working together the whole time, the number of days it would have taken to do the job is

%288%2A10%29%2F%288%2B10%29+=+80%2F18+=+40%2F9

But in the beginning only the first team worked for 1 day, completing 1/10 of the job. Since only 9/10 of the job remains, the number of days it takes the two team together to finish the job is

%2840%2F9%29%2A%289%2F10%29+=+4

ANSWER: N = 4

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
OneTeam 1%2F10 job%2Fdays
AnotherTeam 1%2F8 job%2Fdays
CombinedTeams 1%2F10%2B1%2F8=4%2F40%2B5%2F40=9%2F40 jobs%2Fdays

The actual work done described: %281%2F10%29%2A1%2B%289%2F40%29%2AN=1
Solve for N.

.
One team of workers can complete the job in 10 days -- hence, the rate of work of this team is 1%2F10 of the job per day.

The other team of workers can complete the job in 8 days -- hence, the rate of work of the other team is 1%2F8 of the job per day.

The combined rate of work of two teams working together is 1%2F10+%2B+1%2F8 = 4%2F40+%2B+5%2F40 = 9%2F40 of the job per day.

After working first day, the first team completed 1%2F10 of the job -- hence, 9%2F10 of the job remained to do.

Working at the combined rate 9%2F40 of the job per day, the two team need %28%289%2F10%29%29%2F%28%289%2F40%29%29 = 40%2F10 = 4 days to complete the job.

Thus "N", the number of days under the question is 4: N= 4. ANSWER
