Question 114344: I need to create an equation for this word problem. If you put two pigs, a male and female on an island and they had four babies (2 female and 2 male). Every 4 months the pigs each set had 4 more, then in 4 years how many were on the island, none of them died. I thought the equation would be 2x+x=y and you would always plug y back into x for the next 4 months. am I wrong? Please help thanks

your equation is right ___ every 4 months, the number of pigs triples ___ 2, 6, 18...

so for twelve 4-month periods (4 years) ___ 2(3^12)
