Question 1143326: One man can build a wall in 12 days, and 12 men can finish it in 1 day.
Determine number of men that can build the wall in 1 hr.

12 men = 24 hrs.
n men = 1 hr.

12 / 24 = n / 1
24n = 12
n = .5

That is not correct. Where did I miscalculate? Non - homework.

The calculation you performed indicates that when the number of hours is reduced by a factor of 24 the number of men required is also reduced by a factor of 24.

That of course goes against common sense. As the time decreases by some factor, the number of men required increases by that factor.

12 men times 24 hours = 288 man-hours
x men times 1 hour = 288 man-hours --> x = 288

or just...
12*24 = x*1
288 = x

Rate for one man is 1%2F12jobs per days.
Same as 1%2F%2812%2A24%29=1%2F288 jobs per hours.

One wall, or one job, unknown n men, 1 hour:
