Question 113223: An open box is to be constructed from a square sheet of plastic by removing a square of side 3 inches from each corner, and then turing up the sides. If the box must have a volume of 675 cubic inches, find the length of one side of the open box.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The height of the rectangular box would be, as clearly seen in the figure, 3 inches.
So area of base of the box = 675%2F3 = 225 sq in.
So each side of the base square of the box = sqrt%28225%29 = 15 in.
So each side of the square paper is (3 + 15 + 3) = 21 in.
