Point estimation gives you a particular value as an estimate of the population parameter. For example, the sample mean is a point estimate of the population mean.
Interval estimation gives us a range of values which is likely to contain the population parameter. This interval is called a confidence interval. For example, a < x < b (with a dash over the x) is an interval estimate of the population mean μ. It indicates that the population mean is greater than a but less than b.
