Question 1112955: Hi
1/4 of kens stampss is equal to 2/9 leroys stamps. Leroy has 3 more stamps than ken. How many stamps does leroy have.
thanks Found 2 solutions by ikleyn, MathTherapy:Answer by ikleyn(52781) (Show Source):
= (1)
L = K + 3 (2)
Multiply (1) by 36 (both side) to get
9K = 8L (3)
and then substitute (2) into (3). You will get
9K = 8*(K+3) ====> 9K = 8K + 24 ====> K = 24.
Answer. K has 24 stamps; L has 3 more, i.e. 27.

Let number of stamps Ken and Leroy have, be K and L, respectively
Then we get: ====> =======> =======> ----- eq (i)
Also, L = K + 3 ------- eq (ii)' ----- Substituting for K in eq (ii)
9L = 8L + 27 ------ Multiplying by LCD, 9
9L - 8L = 27
L, or number Leroy has =
