You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Let L be one way distanse, in miles.

Then the"time equation" is

L%2F55 + L%2F40 = 43%2F4      hours.

Multiply by 55*8 both sides:

8L + 11L = 2090  ====>  19L = 2090  ====>  L = 2090%2F19 = 110.

Answer. One way distance was 110 miles.

Check. Checking is a necessary part of the solution.

         Please check the answer on your own. It is very educative !
