: A garden hose can fill a swimming pool in 3 days, and a larger hose can fill the pool in 2 days. How long will it take to fill the pool if both hoses are used? This question is from textbook College Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! each hose fills some fraction of the pool ... the fraction is the combined time divided by the individual time
example: if a hose took 60 minutes and the combined time was 20 minutes,
... then the hose would have filled 20/60 or 1/3
let x="combined time" ... (x/2)+(x/3)=1 ... multiplying by 6 gives 3x+2x=6
