Question 1023142: a fruit seller bought some watermelons at $8 each.Out of these 5 were broken.He sold the remaining at $15 each and made a gain of $275.How many watermelons did he buy. Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x = # of watermelons he originally bought.
==> total cost = 8x
He was able to sell x - 5 (after throwing away 5 of the watermelons).
==> Total sales is 15(x-5).
==> 15(x-5) - 8x = 275.
==> 15x - 75-8x = 275
==> 7x = 350
==> x = 50.
Therefore he originally bought 50 watermelons.
