Question 921767: I have 2 questions I need help with, the first one is confusing me because I can't figure out if it is an area perimeter question or border, my teacher gave us an assignment but it had questions that are set up in a way she never showed us.
1) The hillcrest garden club wants to double the area of its rectangular rose be. Strips of the same width will be added to one end and one side to form a rectangle. If the bed was 17.5m by 12.2m, what are the dimensions of the new bed?
I have no idea how to do the second one, I was never given a question like this
2)Mike Powwell of the USA set a world record of 8.95m for the long jump in 1991. If he ascended to a maximum height of 1.1m, find the quadratic equation that describes his jump path.
If you are able to provide brief (or fully explained) steps to HOW it is worked out that would be amazing, I want to understand how to do it so I can practice. Thanks!

Question 923802: A photograph is 16 inches wide and 9 inches long and is surrounded by a frame of uniform width x. If the area of the frame is 84 square inches, find the uniform width of the frame.
a. What is the area of the photograph and frame?
b. Given the area of the frame which is 84 square inches, formulate the relationship among three areas and simplify.
I'm not sure about letter b but is the equation a(w)= (16+2x)(9+2x) or a(w)= 4x^2+25x+144 correct?
And I'm not sure if I should just add the two areas for letter 'a' or the area given for the frame is just the area of its borders/sides with the portion of the picture cut out.
