Let width be x feet
Then length = 4x+3
Area = x*(4x+3)
which is equal to 45 (given)
Therefore
x*(4x+3)= 45
4x^2+3x = 45
4x^2 + 3x -45=0
4x^2 + 15x -12x -45=0
x*(4x+15) -3*(4x+15)=0
(x-3)(4x+15)=0
so x=3 or 15/4
Ans : Length = 15ft and width=3ft

Common aquarium holds 10 gallons. I know volume of a right rectangular tank is found by multiplying the length of the tank times the width times the height, or V=lwh. I know 231 cubic inches are equal to 1 gallon.

A new customer would like an aquarium that is 22 inches long 21 inches deep and holds 16 gallons of water. He wants to know if the tank would fit on a shelf that is 10 inches wide. I need to know if it would fit and why (or why not)
