Question 387766: please help me solve this word problem:
A right triangle has has one leg that is 5 cm longer than the other leg. The hypotenuse is 25 cm long. Find the length of each leg of the triangle suppose base is x cm and perpendicular is 5cm longer becomes x+5,now according to pythagorean theorm h^2=p^2+b^2 therefore 25=(x+5)^2+x^2 so,25=x^2+10x+25+x^2 then,25=2x^2+10x+25 therefore25-25=x(2x+10)therefore x=0 and2x=-10so right angle has -5 base therefore that right angle does'nt exist
