Question 23073: A tree (altitude =a) breaks somewhere in its height and falls over.
The tip of the tree touches ground at 20' from stump (base b= 20')
The created hypotonuse (c) is equal to 2 times a.
What was the height of the tree before the tree broke and fell?
given that: a^2 + b^2 = c^2
I end up with x^2 + 20^2 = 2x^2
Now where do I go to finish? (Next: x^2 - 2x^2 = 400)?
I can't remember how to solve this. My book has no literal explanation of the steps (I'm too dumb to derive the solution)
