Question 995923: A 13 feet ladder is placed 5 feet away from a wall. The distance from the ground straight up to the top of the wall is 13 feet. Will the ladder reach the top of the wall?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! No, for two reasons.
The best one is that as soon as a 13 foot ladder is moved away from the wall, it can no longer be as high.
The second is trigonometry. The ladder is the hypotenuse, and the two legs are distance from the wall and height of the wall. If it is moved 5 feet away, it will reach 12 feet high, for 5^2+12^2=13^2.
