Question 984753: A set of rectangle is constructed so that their sides are in the ratio length : width = 5 : √3 + 1

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Length/width=5/sqrt(3)+1
sqrt(2)/W=5/sqrt(3)+1
cross-multiply. sqrt(2)*sqrt(3)=sqrt(2*3)=sqrt(6)
;;
sqrt(6)+sqrt(2)=5W
W=(1/5)[sqrt (6)+ sqrt(2)]
;;
check: the ratio is approximately 5/2.7 or 1.85
;
sqrt(6)+sqrt(2) is about 3.9, and that divided by 5, is 0.78, just less than 0.8.
;
0.8*0.78=1.44, close enough to sqrt (2).
