Question 979476: an architect is designing a race track that will be 60 ft wide and have semicircular ends. the length of the track is to be one mile, measured on the inside edge of the track.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 60 feet wide is the diameter of the semicircle, and its semi-circumference is 30 pi feet. The circumference of the whole circle is pi*D=60 pi.
There are two ends, however, so that the inside turns are 60*pi feet in length. This is subtracted from 5280 feet and divided by two for each side, and that makes a track that has two sides, each 2451.50 feet, and two turns, each measuring 188.5 feet. That is 377 + 4903 =5280 feet.
