Let +m+ = mother's age now

given:
(1) +m+=+2j+%2B+10+
(2) +m+=+30+
--------------------
Substitute (2) into (1)
(1) +30+=+2j+%2B+10+
Subtract+10+ from both sides
(1) +30+-+10+=+2j+
(1) +2j+=+20+
Divide both sides by +2+
(1) +j+=+10+
Janet is 10
