Question 946630: I am gluing a ribbon around the sides of a picture frame. The frame is 11 inches long and 7 inches wide. How much ribbon do I need?

I am submitting this for my 8 year old daughter. Her guess for the answer is 11x7=77
Not sure if that is the correct answer or not?
Me, being her mother seems to think it would be 11x2=22, 7x2=14...... 22+14= 36 inches of ribbon
I am not sure if I am or correct or she is, but I am hoping to help her get the correct answer
Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Her guess is wrong, you did it correct.
the length of a ribbon around the sides of a picture frame,if the frame is L=11in long and W=7in wide, will be equal to the perimeter
the perimeter is the sum of all four sides where two sides are the length and two sides are the width
so, the perimeter P is:
P=2L%2B2W
P=2%2A11in%2B2%2A7in
P=22in%2B14in
P=36in
so, you will need 36in ribbon
