let x be the width of rectangular carpet
length = 2x+8
perimeter ( sum of all sides) = 46
x+(2x+8)+x+(2x+8)=46
6x +16 = 46
move 16 tot he right
6x= 46-16
6x=30
divide with 6 on both sides
+6x%2F6+=30%2F6
x= 5
width (x) = 5 ft
length = 2*5+8
=10+8
=18 ft
Result : length =18 ft , width = 5 ft
