Question 927126: In an isosceles trapezoid, the altitude drawn from an endpoint of the shorter base to the longer base divides the longer base of 5cm and 10cm long. What are the lengths of the bases of the trapezoid? Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Now since the trapezoid is isosceles it is symmetrical, so
we draw in the altitude at the other endpoint of the shorter
base to the longer base.
Since the triangles on each side are congruent, the bottom side of
the triangle on the right is also 5, so it divides the length of 10
in half, making the middle part 5. And since the middle part is
5, and the middle part of the trapezoid is a rectangle, the
shorter base at the top of the trapezoid, is 5 also.
